Halifax Chartist Hero Remembered: Benjamin Rushton

On Friday 23rd June, 50 people attended a Calderdale Trades Council Benjamin Rushton commemorative event in Lister Lane Cemetery, Halifax.  

 Speakers included David Glover of the cemetery, Calderdale councillor Jenny Lynn, Vee Smith-UKA of Right to Remain, author Catherine Howe and myself. The event was chaired by Daniel Whittall of the NEU who also read out a solidarity message on behalf of Mohammad Taj, TUC President 2013-14. I was lucky enough to lay a wreath at Rushton's grave, which was rediscovered by Harriett Dell around 15 years ago.
